Carles Gel (1963) lives in the Vall de Ribes, in the Pyrenees, where he works as a high mountain guide, is a Nordic ski teacher and a writer. He has his company, Alpine Pyrenees, in Ribes de Freser and specializes in the world of mountaineering and expeditions.
Since 1988 he has traveled around the world. So far he has made 24 expeditions to the Andes, the Himalayas, Alaska, the Pamir, the Atlas and Greenland, where in the spring of 2002 he skied across the largest island in the world from West to East (700 km) , thus becoming the first Catalan to complete a large polar crossing.
So far he has authored about fifteen books and 'Thoughts from Tibet' is his first novel.
